SUMMER JOB IN DATA ANALYSIS & NLP – students only

About the position

We are seeking a highly motivated student to join our team as a Data Analysis Assistant.

This is a 3-month, paid position reserved for BA or MA students who are enrolled at an Icelandic University.

As a part of our team, you will be responsible for creating datasets of academic articles on which we can train our machine-learning algorithms. You will also research different writing styles that are found in academic papers. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

This is a joint project between the Icelandic company SageWrite and the Language & Technology lab at the University of Iceland. By working on this project, the student will gain skills that can be used to pursue a career in natural language processing (NLP). In 2021, NLP was one of the 7 most in-demand tech skills.

What will you do?

Responsibilities:

  • Collect academic articles from various sources and input them into our database
  • Analyze articles to identify writing styles commonly used in academic publications
  • Read through automatically generated snippets of text to spot issues; evaluate the quality of automatically generated text
  • Ensure data accuracy and completeness
  • Collaborate with team members to improve data analysis processes

Requirements

You:

  • are a BA or MA student who is enrolled at an Icelandic university;
  • are fluent in English;
  • are interested in natural language processing;
  • have used Python before;
  • have an ability to work independently;
  • can work during the summer months.

Nice-to-haves:

  • you have some experience with basic NLP tasks/concepts

We particularly encourage students enrolled in a Linguistics, Language & Technology, Modern Languages or Computational Linguistics program to apply for this position.
